On May 5, 2017, the Italian Council of Ministers approved the Legislative Decree regarding the reorganization of the ordinary courts, which provides many novelties. The most important of them is undoubtedly the extension of the subjects under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Judge of Peace, that will be the only body to be able to judge in the case of condominium disputes.

Another very important change concerns the maximum value limit in case of disputes having mobile property as object (no more 20 thousand but 30 thousand euros), while road accidents can have a value up to 50,000 euros (no more 20,000 euros).

Additionally, the Judge of Peace will decide with the criterion of fairness  all the causes with a maximum value of 2,500 euros.

In criminal matters, the jurisdiction of the Judge of Peace will be extended to: contraventions for the abandonment or killing of animals, in case of refuse to give information to an official public about personal identity, in case of crime of aggravated threats.
